Strain-based investigation on solidification crack susceptibility of 6005 aluminium using adjustable ring mode (ARM) laser welding

چکیده
Solidification cracks are among the most deteriorating defects observed in Remote Laser Welding (RLW) of 6xxx aluminium alloys. This research has been designed to study solidification crack susceptibility during RLW AA6005 alloy using Adjustable Ring mode (ARM) laser technology. The experimental setup included a high-speed camera on self-restraint test rig, and strains near root front were identified with Finite Element based Digital Image Correlation (DIC) technique. DIC technique allows precise measurement displacements evaluates at melt pool, further correlates critical formed power ratios core ring beam. A process window relating total ratio cracking was identified. Although linear dependency exists between weld penetration depth, same does not apply sensitivity since parabola-like relationship observed. Findings suggested that transition from coarse fine equiaxed grains increasing reduces threshold 1.5. It reveals is determined by combined effect grain refinement (predominant below 1.5) permeability fusion zone above 1.5).

Laser Welding of Aluminium Alloy 5083
There are two laser welding mechanisms, keyhole mode and conduction mode. Keyhole welding is widely used because it produces welds with high aspect ratios and narrow heat affected zones. However keyhole welding can be unstable, as the keyhole oscillates and closes intermittently. This intermittent closure causes porosity due to gas entrapment. Conduction welding, on the other hand, is more stab...

The solidification process in a weld pool has been shown to have a considerable influence upon the properties of the resultant weld. It influences the development of microstructure (Edvardsson et al., 1976), and determines the distribution of alloying elements, and hence the homogeneity of the weld. Previous work on the cooling behaviour of welds (Garland and Kirkwood, 1974; Svensson et al., 19...
